Former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Prof. Opoku Onyinah, has addressed speculation linking him to the position of running mate for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Rumors have been circulating suggesting Prof. Onyinah as a potential running mate for Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming December 7 election. A Facebook post by Prof. Onyinah on Sunday fueled further speculation, with many interpreting it as confirmation of the rumors.
However, in a subsequent post, Prof. Onyinah clarified that his initial message was not related to ongoing speculations. He explained that the post was inspired by the Church of Pentecost’s 2015 theme and contained valuable lessons.
Since Dr. Bawumia’s election as the NPP flagbearer on November 4, 2023, various names have emerged as potential running mates. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Energy Minister and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, is rumored to be a frontrunner.
Other names circulating include John Ampontuah Kumah, Deputy Finance Minister and MP for Ejisu in Ashanti, as well as Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour.
Additionally, figures such as Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (Education Minister), Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu (Majority Leader), and Ursula Owusu-Ekuful are also mentioned as contenders.
