The Ghana Police Service has launched an intensive manhunt for a group of armed robbers who fatally shot two police officers at Poyamirea, a community on the outskirts of Binduri in the Upper East Region.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the police confirmed the tragic incident, which occurred earlier today.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the two officers, who were in plain clothes, were traveling on a private motorbike from Bongo to Binduri when they were ambushed by the armed assailants. After shooting the officers, the attackers made away with their motorbike.
Identities Withheld Pending Family Notification
The identities of the fallen officers are currently being withheld as the Police Administration works to formally notify their families, in line with Ghanaian traditional and customary protocols.
“The Police Administration wishes to express its deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Regional Commander, as well as all officers and men in the region. Our hearts and prayers are with you,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi said in the statement.
Assurance of Swift Justice
The Police Service has assured the public that it is deploying all available resources to track down the perpetrators.
“We would like to assure the general public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be arrested and brought to face justice; and we will surely get them,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi affirmed.
The tragic killing has sent shockwaves through the security community, sparking renewed calls for vigilance and enhanced patrols in remote parts of the Upper East Region.
