Afua Asantewaa Aduonum Completes Singathon Attempt, Awaits Guinness World Record Validation

Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum, a prominent Ghanaian women’s rights advocate, journalist, and event organizer, has concluded her marathon singing attempt, awaiting confirmation from Guinness World Records. The endeavor, which lasted 126 hours and 52 minutes, began at midnight on December 24, 2023, and concluded on the morning of December 29, 2023.

While official verification from Guinness World Record judges is pending, Asantewaa’s feat is believed to have surpassed the existing record set by India’s Sunil Waghmare in 2012. The singer expressed gratitude to her supporters and shared that she lost track of time during the five-day effort.

Addressing the audience after receiving medical attention, Asantewaa expressed hope that her achievement would inspire women and youth across the nation. She thanked everyone involved, including her family, team, volunteers, media, Ghana Tourism Authority, musicians, politicians, and security officials.

The Singathon, initially scheduled for December 24-27, 2023, was extended to account for potential deductions in her time for breaks by Guinness World Record judges. Dr. Grace Buckman, leading Asantewaa’s medical team, praised her endurance but advised an earlier conclusion due to fatigue and prioritizing Asantewaa’s health. Despite concluding earlier than planned, Asantewaa’s effort stands as a remarkable accomplishment, putting Ghana on the global stage and earning praise for her dedication to the music industry.
