Afua Asantewaa has made headlines with her attempt at a sing-a-thon, even though she is awaiting feedback from Guinness World Records. The Ghanaian broadcaster, now Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador, met Akon in Ivory Coast during the ongoing AFCON where Ghana is set to play tonight.
During their brief interaction, the Senegalese-American music icon expressed amazement over Afua Asantewaa’s feat of singing for 5 days nonstop. Akon immediately introduced Afua to some of his African friends.
Excited about meeting Akon, Afua shared the encounter on Instagram. “For singing for the longest, you know she sang straight for five days,” Akon told his friends.
Afua Asantewaa Aduonum aimed to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon, starting on December 24, 2023, and scheduled to conclude on December 27, 2023. She successfully surpassed the previous record, achieving an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes on December 29, 2023.
This remarkable achievement drew the attention of Akon, showcasing the impact and recognition of Afua Asantewaa’s sing-a-thon beyond national borders.
