Hon. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, the leader and presidential candidate of the Movement for Change/Afrafranto Alliance, has made a significant pledge to complete the ambitious Greater Kumasi Industrial City and Special Economic Zone project located in Ejisu, should he be elected president in the upcoming December 7 elections.

During a visit to the Palace of Ejisu Manhene, Nana Afrane Okese IV, on October 3, Kyerematen described the project as a transformative initiative for Ghana’s industrial landscape. He asserted, “If elected as president, I will build the biggest projects that can turn the fortunes of the country.” He emphasized the importance of the Greater Kumasi Industrial City, declaring it a pivotal move toward industrializing Ghana’s economy. This $2.5 billion venture is anticipated to create numerous job opportunities and revolutionize the nation’s industrial sector.

Highlighting the collaboration with the Ejisu Manhene, Kyerematen noted, “Nana Afrane Okese IV was part of the team that conceptualized this entire project.” His commitment to Asanteman and Ejisu is evident, as he revealed he secured $30 million in World Bank funding to kickstart this initiative, affirming his dedication to the region.

In addition to the World Bank funding, Kyerematen has also successfully obtained $100 million from the government of South Korea for the project’s first phase. He pointed out that while the Buankra Inland Port is a step forward, it alone cannot fulfill the industrialization goals he envisions. “The Greater Kumasi Industrial City is essential to truly accelerate our industrial progress,” he stated.

Describing the project further, Kyerematen remarked, “This will be the largest industrial project since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s Tema Industrial City.” He envisions it as a catalyst for job creation, government revenue generation through taxes, and a boost in exports while simultaneously reducing import dependency, thereby stabilizing Ghana’s foreign exchange rate.

“This project will not only stabilize our foreign exchange but also reduce import dependency, helping to make the Ashanti Region the industrial hub of West Africa,” he emphasized. Beyond its economic implications, Kyerematen underscored his commitment to transforming Ghana and enhancing the Ashanti Region’s industrial prominence.

With unemployment emerging as a critical national concern, he stressed the urgency of the project for Ghana’s future. “This project is not just a vision; it’s essential for the future of Ghana. Beyond 2024, this will be a critical project for our economic stability,” he stated, expressing confidence that the Greater Kumasi Industrial City would promote sustainable growth and long-term job creation.

Nana Afrane Okese IV endorsed Kyerematen’s presidential bid, stating, “I will always support his aim of becoming the president of the republic.” The chief commended Kyerematen’s commitment to industrializing Ghana and making lasting changes.

This visit marks the second day of Kyerematen’s 21-day Caravan Tour through the Ashanti Region, where he continues to engage with traditional leaders and local communities. His prior experience as Trade and Industry Minister and his meetings with World Bank officials and traditional authorities underline his long-standing dedication to transforming the Ashanti Region into an industrial powerhouse.
