Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd, the operating entity of the Asanko Gold Mine in the Ashanti Region, has strongly denounced the tragic killing of two of its contracted security personnel and a civilian during a clash in Tontokrom, located in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.
The company has urged law enforcement agencies to promptly investigate the circumstances surrounding the murders and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
In a press release dated March 4, 2024, and distributed to the media, Asanko Gold’s management clarified that the illegal miners responsible for the attack were not residents of Tontokrom.
“Asanko remains steadfast in prioritizing the safety of our employees, contractors, and community members. We implore the security agencies in the country to thoroughly investigate this incident and apprehend those responsible,” the statement emphasized.
According to the release, on the day of the incident, the contracted security personnel were conducting routine patrols within the mining communities in the region and had visited the Tontokrom concession owned by Asanko. However, contrary to expectations, the illegal miners did not engage in their unlawful activities on that particular day.
