Clottey told the Graphic Sports that the current trend where young boxers lived with different women must stop if they wanted to win world titles in the future.
So many boxers have been accused of choosing promiscuous lifestyles at the early stages of their careers which continues to ruin their prospects of making it big.
Using his career as an example, Clottey said he became a world champion before deciding to entertain women in his home in the US.
He explained that it was important to choose one’s career over women when coming up as a boxer in order to avoid losing focus.
“The way things are going, I don’t think it will be easy for Ghana to have a world champion because young boxers have made women their priority.
“At this age when they should be focusing on making it big in the sport, they are living with women in their homes. Do you think they will have the time to focus and make it?
“I doubt if they can reach their full potential because in the end, it is the country that loses because it becomes difficult to get champions,” Clottey said.
Clottey had a stellar career during his heyday and fought some boxing greats such as the legendary Manny Pacquaio, Miguel Cotto, Antonio Margarito and Zab Judah, among others.
