Here are the college football odds and betting lines for Georgia State vs. Coastal Carolina:
The Chanticleers can take some confidence from the notion that they just managed to defeat a Buffalo team that had an approach Georgia State is likely to duplicate. The Bulls attempted to limit possessions with a run-first attack and deny Coastal opportunities by going for it on fourth down regularly.
The Bulls successfully held the ball for 39 minutes compared to 21 minutes for the Chanticleers and successfully converted three of five fourth-down attempts. Buffalo also ran 93 plays from scrimmage to just 53 to Coastal Carolina. Even so, the Bulls managed just 59 rushing yards on 44 attempts for an average of 1.3 yards per carry.
Moreover, Coastal Carolina made up for its lack of efficiency with big plays on both sides of the ball. Jacob Jenkins caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Grayson McCall in the first quarter and CJ Beasley helped seal the game with a 59-yard touchdown reception from McCall late in the fourth quarter. Jahmar Brown gave the Chanticleers a fourth-quarter lead with a 21-yard fumble return as Coastal Carolina offset committing four turnovers by forcing four from Buffalo.
With a short turnaround time for Thursday's game, Georgia State coach Shawn Elliott said his team will spend little time on the practice field and will instead focus on the mental errors that he believes have cost his team its first three games.
For example, the Panthers had two punts blocked against South Carolina to break open what had been a tight game. Last Saturday against Charlotte, a missed point-after attempt proved to be the difference in the final score and a missed assignment that led to a defensive touchdown on a fumble recovery. The Panthers also missed some coverage assignments on Charlotte's game-winning drive.
"You've got to find time to regroup during the week," Elliott told the media. "We're not going to beat these guys up or tire them out in practice. Most of our mistakes were mental mistakes so education in the classroom, the meeting room, is certainly going to be huge for us. If we can just eliminate those things there, we could be a much different football team."
SportsLine's model is leaning Under the total, projecting 56 combined points.
