Steve Davis, the Wolves interim coach, doesn’t understand why he has been called up
Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence at the World Cup in Qatar was a foregone conclusion, despite not being in his best form. At 37 years of age, he aims to be Portugal‘s star yet again in Qatar.
However, it seems that not everyone agrees with his call-up. Steve Davis, interim coach of Wolves, does not understand why the forward is going to Qatar, considering his age and current form.
Davis told the media that his own player Joao Moutinho might be disappointed that the Portuguese has gone to the World Cup and he hasn’t made the cut.
“I haven’t spoken to Joao about it, he was very focused on the stuff we were doing for Arsenal tomorrow,” Davis stated in his pre-match press conference.
“He’s very professional, I’m sure he’ll reflect on not being selected and he will be disappointed with Ronaldo going at that age.
“The coach has to think about the balance of the squad, it’s important for any coach, so maybe that was part of the decision.”
Portugal will head to the World Cup with Ruben Neves, Jose Sa and Matheus Nunes all part of their squad.
The Wolves trio will look to leave their impact on Portugal‘s campaign, which is due to begin on November 24 with a match against Ghana.
