EC Unveils Provisional Voter Register for 2024 Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has made public the provisional voter register as part of a one-week public exhibition scheduled from August 20 to 27, 2024.

This provisional register serves as an opportunity for all aspiring candidates to review the list, allowing them to challenge the eligibility of voters whose credentials may be in question.

During a press briefing held at the EC headquarters on Monday, Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to its timeline for distributing the provisional register.

He explained that under Regulation 22 of CI 31, as amended by CI 126, the commission is mandated to provide the provisional register to political parties within three months of the conclusion of the registration period.

Dr. Asare further clarified that the limited voter registration process, which concluded on May 29, 2024, followed by a mop-up registration completed on August 3, 2023, had the commission on track to release the provisional register by the end of August 2024.

He confirmed that the external drives containing the provisional register are now available for collection, with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other political parties having already received their copies.

The exhibition exercise for the voter register will commence on August 20 and run through August 27, 2024.
