Efia Odo Condemns #OccupyJulorBiHouse Arrests, Labels President ‘Dictator’

Ghanaian socialite, Efia Odo, has expressed her strong disapproval of the recent police actions against protestors of the #OccupyJulorBiHouse demonstration, referring to President Nana Akufo-Addo as a “dictator” in a tweet. She criticized the treatment of demonstrators, highlighting that they were simply exercising their human right to protest peacefully. Efia Odo, known for her involvement in the ‘Fix The Country’ demonstration in 2021, joined a chorus of other celebrities and citizens who have voiced their disappointment over the arrests.

Prominent figures from Ghana’s entertainment industry, including Kofi Kinaata, KiDi, KoJo Cue, Lydia Forson, Sarkodie, and Stonebwoy, have also expressed their concern and frustration regarding the arrests.

The protest was organized by the civil society group Democracy Hub, who notified the Ghana Police Service of their planned demonstration on Nkrumah Memorial Day. Their aim was to call for economic reforms in light of perceived mismanagement and corruption in the government. Despite the police filing an injunction application on the eve of the demonstration, organizers proceeded with the protest, leading to the arrests of some participants.

Despite the police presence and warnings, the protestors remain committed to conveying their message, gathering for a second day of the demonstration at Jubilee House.
