The Ghanaian government has reassured the international community that the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections will be conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.
Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, affirmed the state’s commitment to establishing all necessary structures to prevent conflicts before, during, and after the elections. This assurance was delivered during an address on behalf of President Akufo-Addo at the celebration of the 248th Independence Day of the United States of America, held at the US Embassy Garden in Accra.
Mr. Dame highlighted that over 60 nations, including the United States, will be holding elections in 2024. He emphasized that, similar to the US, Ghana’s elections would be free from electoral violence.
“As you may all be aware, we are at a momentous point in the practice of democracies around the world. In 2024, we will witness national elections in more than 64 countries globally, including Ghana and the United States of America. We will watch with keen interest as voters in both countries exercise their democratic rights and open the next chapter of the two nations in their respective political landscapes.
“The government of Ghana assures the United States of America and the entire international community of its commitment to ensure that Ghana’s upcoming elections will be peaceful, transparent, and free and fair,” he stated.
