Mr Eli Hini, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MTN Mobile Money (MoMo) Limited has advised agents to be more security conscious and help curb MoMo fraud.
He asked them to put in place the necessary mechanisms to augment what had been put in place by MTN Ghana and other regulatory bodies.
Mr Hini said this at a ceremony to honour 400 MoMo partners, including MoMo agents and merchants in the South-East District of MTN Ghana over the weekend in Accra.
The ceremony saw Mr Isaac Bediako of IK Bediako venture taking home a Hyundai Creta SUV, GH?15,000, CCVT installation, a plague and other MTN souvenirs for emerging the ultimate winner in the South-East District. Other agents and merchants were also given TV sets, mobile phones, motorcycles, tabletop fridges, generator sets, CCTV cameras and laptops.
In an interview with the Media after the awards, Mr Hini said, “we appreciate your role in helping us fight fraud… and we urge you to most importantly ensure that your place of operation is well secured to avoid burglars.”
“As we begin the festive season, we would like to urge all our partners and customers to remain vigilant in the fight against fraud,” the MTN MoMo CEO added.
He also urged all partners of the company to “keep up the good work to project a positive image for Mobile Money Limited and for that matter our mother brand MTN Ghana and provide an exceptional experience for our customers.”
On insurance for their agents, he said, “we have an insurance that in the unfortunate event that something like that happens [attack on agents] at least we have something to support the agent.
“But what we are preaching to our agents is to manage their place of work; follow some basic rules that will ensure that at least they protect themselves. Agent should not work late into the night, bank your funds, invest in a safe where you keep your money away from the eyes of people,” Mr Hini added.
He also indicated that the company was collaborating with the Police to bring the service as close as possible to Ghanaians.
He said the awards were instituted to encourage and celebrate the MoMo partners, spur them on to continue to excel in their work and to give us the kind of service that our customers deserve.
Mr Bediako who emerged the overall winner, attributed his achievement to the customer service experience he acquired through the company during a trip to Dubai and hard work.
Mrs Evelyn Asare, the only female among the top three winners, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed concern over the introduction of the e-levy, noting that it would negatively affect their business and urged the Government to reconsider it.
