A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday, April 30, at Millenium City in Kasoa, where a military officer lost his life in a dispute over land. Corporal Danso, hailing from the Base Workshop unit of the Ghana Armed Forces, fell victim to a fatal shooting amid the confrontation.
Reports indicate that Corporal Danso, alongside two fellow officers, confronted individuals working on a disputed land claimed to have been purchased by one of the officers. The transaction was reportedly facilitated by Winnebo Ndego, who confirmed the purchase. However, the officers encountered resistance from a group led by Fiifi, allegedly identified as a land guard, impeding further development on the land.
Despite previous attempts to resolve the matter with law enforcement, the situation remained unresolved. Upon revisiting the land on April 30, the officers encountered workers stationed at the site. Despite urging them to cease operations and accompany them to the police station, tensions escalated, leading to a decision to return to the station for resolution.
Upon arrival, they discovered their case had been transferred to the Central East Regional Police Command. Attempting to follow up, they were reportedly ordered by Benlord Ababio, also known as Nana Ben, alleged to be a sub-chief, to desist from pursuing the case. Refusing to comply, they continued towards the Regional Command.
Tragically, Nana Ben opened fire on their vehicle, a private Toyota RAV4 car, resulting in the death of one officer. The deceased’s body was promptly transported to the hospital, pending police investigation. The Ghana Armed Forces is yet to issue a statement regarding the loss of one of its officers.
