By Sabyasachi Chowdhury: Spain, on Thursday, November 17, defeated Jordan 3-1 in the FIFA World Cup warm-up match at the Amman International Stadium.
Ansu Fati’s goal in the 13th minute gave Spain the much-needed lead in the first-half. Thereafter, Gavi and Nico Williams scored in the 56th and 84th minute respectively to make it a one-sided affair for Spain.
Hamza-Al-Dardour scored in the 92nd minute, but it was only to mitigate some damage for Jordan.
Sweden defeated Mexico 2-1 at the Estadi Montilivi in Girona after Mattias Svanberg scored in the 84th minute. After a goalless first-half, Marcus Rohden opened the account for Sweden in the 54th minute after Alexis Vega drew the equalizer for Mexico.
However, Svanberg’s timely goal in the dying stages of the encounter saved the day for Mexico.
Canada defeated Japan 2-1 at Al Maktoum Stadium after Lucas Cavallini’s goal through a penalty in the 95th minute. Yuki Soma gave Japan a lead in the ninth minute, after which they held on to the lead at the end of the first-half.
Then it was Steven Vitoria, who gave Canada the equalizer, after which Cavallini held his nerve to take them past the finish line.
Morocco secured a comprehensive 3-0 win over Georgia at the Sharjah Stadium. Youssef En-Nesyri, Hakim Ziyech and Sofiane Boufal’s goals took Morocco to a morale-boosting victory.
Ghana, in the meantime, handed Switzerland a 2-0 defeat at the Baniyas Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Mohammed Salisu and Antonie Semenyo scored goals to give Ghana the triumph.
The match between Iraq and Costa Rica couldn’t take place at Basra International Stadium. The game had to be cancelled due to a passport issue.
“The match against Iraq was suspended,” the Costa Rican federation was quoted as saying in a statement.
