Otto Addo, as a player, was part of the historic Ghana squad that played their first World Cup in 2006 in Germany. At the club level, Addo, a former attacking midfielder, played for Borussia Dortmund. After retirement, he worked in the capacities of assistant, scout, and head coach.
The 47-year-old coach’s first managerial break came in 2010 when he joined Hamburger SV U-19 side and managed the team till 2015.

In December 2013, Addo was appointed as the head scout of the Ghana national football team and talent coach of Dortmund.
In an eventful February 2022, he was appointed as assistant coach to Milovan Rajevac. A few days later, the Ghana Football Association named him the interim coach for the national football team ahead of the team’s 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup final play-off match against Nigeria.
By the end of March, Ghana, with Addo at the helm, qualified for the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup after drawing 1–1 against Nigeria in the second leg. The first leg ended in a goalless draw.
In the qualification round, Ghana, with Addo deploying a 4-2-3-1 formation, topped the group ahead of South Africa by virtue of its better head-to-head record.

Addo has several big names from European club football at his disposal, such as Arsenal’s Thomas Partey and Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus, as well as a few players who have recently switched nationality in order to represent the African nation, including Brighton & Hove Albion’s Tariq Lamptey and Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams.
Ghana, placed in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea, will play its first match on November 24.
