First Ghana Comedy Awards Set for April 20

The inaugural Ghana Comedy Awards, organized by Creative Republic, is scheduled to take place at Snap Cinemas inside the AMA building on Saturday, April 20.

The Ghana Comedy Awards is being held separately from the annual Comedy & Poetry Awards (CoPoAwards).

The awards scheme features 22 categories intended to celebrate comedians for their outstanding work in the past year.

Categories include Comic Skit Act of the Year, Most Popular Comedian of the Year, Standup Comedian of the Year, Comedian of the Year, Comedy Actor of the Year, Comedy Actress of the Year, Female Comedian of the Year, and Unsung Comedian of the Year.

Nominees for Female Comedian of the Year include Felicia Osei, Afia Barcelona, Vivian Jill Lawrence, Jacinta Ocansey, Efua Dell, Maame Esi Forson, Gyimidi, and Erkuah Official.

Competing for the Comedian of the Year award are OB Amponsah, Foster Romanus, DKB, Clemento Suarez, Jacinta Ocansey, Lekzy Decomic, Ebenezer Dwomoh, and Aka Ebenezer.

The Comedy Discovery of the Year award has nominees Kwame Obed, Comedian Unknown, Papayaw Ataamle, Small Pitah, and Kwaku Forty.

Voting officially closed on April 10, with winners determined by a combination of votes, board and academy reviews, and other considerations.

The event will begin with a red carpet and cocktail session at 6:00 pm, followed by comic performances from OB Amponsah, Lekzy Decomic, Ebenezer Dwomoh, MJ the Comedian, and many other up-and-coming comedians.
