Born in Jamestown formerly British Accra, George Ashie popularly known as “Red Tiger” by boxing fans is a former African Boxing Union super featherweight champion, a Universal Boxing Council (UBC) Super Featherweight titlist, and Commonwealth lightweight king.
Ahead of the hugely anticipated battle between himself and Robert Quaye christened on the wings of Box Office Sports Promotions and slated 6th March 2022 at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra-Ghana, the experienced veteran is in some boisterous mood, predicting a knockout though cautiously optimistic as expected.
Against the current Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) Champion, 29-year old Robert Quaye who is undefeated in his 20 professional boxing fights, 17 of those wins coming by way of knockouts,…the darling boy Ashie is under no illusion of the enormity of the battle ahead.
In Boxing Ghana’s exclusive interview with the 38-year-old Ashie who has 32 professional boxing wins with 24 by way of knockouts and 5 controversially acquired defeats, we posed these questions;
- What should your fans be expecting from you come fight night ?
Ashie: Yes they trust me very well and they know that I can do it…and will do it.
- Age and experience….. Is it going to be a factor in this fight?
Ashie: Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Don’t worry is a game of boxing the ring will decide.
- Robert Quaye is undefeated…Are you not afraid to fight him
Ashie: Robert Quaye is going to lose that night.
George Ashie versus Robert Quaye is one of the best boxing match-ups in recent years as far as Ghana professional boxing is concerned and credit to the promoter Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye for another novelty of about.
