The Ghana Football Association announces a change in plans for the training camp location of the Black Stars in preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Following a review meeting between the Management and Technical Team, the original decision to camp in South Africa has been revised.
Originally, the Black Stars were set to open a training camp in South Africa from December 31, 2023, for ten days ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Tournament in Cote D’Ivoire. The revised decision now places the camp in Kumasi, starting from January 2, 2023.
Due to this change, the international friendly against Botswana scheduled for January 8, 2023, in Johannesburg has been canceled. The Football Association is actively working on securing a new opponent as part of the team’s preparations for the tournament in Abidjan.
Recognizing the Black Stars Technical Team’s preference for a quiet and serene camping atmosphere, the hotel will be strictly off-limits to the public and the media. Training sessions will be conducted behind closed doors, with no access granted to the public and media. However, a dedicated session with the media will be organized, and the friendly match will be open to the public. A post-match press conference with the media will follow.
The Association seeks public understanding and support to ensure the Technical Team’s objectives are met during the camping period in Kumasi. Ghana, placed in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, will commence their campaign against Cape Verde on January 14, followed by matches against Egypt on January 18 and Mozambique on January 22.
