The Interior Ministry of Ghana has announced the extension of the curfew in the Bawku Municipality and surrounding areas within the Upper East Region. Starting from Tuesday, July 2, 2024, the curfew will be enforced daily from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
Interior Minister Henry Quartey underscored the critical necessity of maintaining calm among local leaders and residents. He emphasized the importance of pursuing peaceful resolutions to ongoing issues, urging individuals to utilize local dispute resolution mechanisms or engage community leaders to help address conflicts effectively.
The prohibition on the possession of arms or weapons remains strictly in effect. Authorities are poised to enforce arrests and prosecute violators, underscoring the seriousness with which the situation is being approached.
The extension of the curfew is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and security in the region. Minister Quartey reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability, noting that these measures are essential to safeguarding the well-being of all residents.
