Give Your Members IDs – IGP To Courier Service Operators

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare and some members of the Police Management Board, on Monday, held a stakeholder engagement with the National Courier Association-Ghana.

The engagement was to discuss safety and security issues affecting courier operators and the various initiatives needed to reduce accidents involving motorbike riders.

The meeting moderated by President of the Association, Kwame Bekoe, was of the essence because the country is approaching the festive season.

During the engagement, the Service charged the Association’s leadership to provide some form of identification for their members, such as uniforms and badges.

This, the service noted, is to enable its outfit to carry out its duties by monitoring, arresting and prosecuting recalcitrant riders.

Also, members of the Courier Services raised several challenges they face during their day-to-day activities.

They include; riders being tagged as armed robbers, frequent harassment and lack of civility from some police officers, indiscipline on the part of some commercial riders resulting in accidents, destruction of car mirrors, among others.

They, therefore, admonished the Police Service to have further engagements with the groups to find the appropriate solutions.

In response, the Service pledged to address the many concerns raised.

The Service, however, advised the Association to entreat members to observe all road traffic regulations to save lives during the Christmas season and beyond.

The riders were also urged to be ambassadors of good riding and an example for other riders.
