After a string of high-profile departures during the summer, Chelsea have stepped up the rebuilding of the team that will support head coach Potter.
Chelsea this week confirmed the appointments of Laurence Stewart, from Monaco, as their new technical director while Joe Shields was named co-director of recruitment and talent and is set to join next year once he has seen out his notice period of a number of months at Southampton.
Brighton’s head of recruitment Paul Winstanley is also expected to join Chelsea, potentially in a more senior sporting director role, with Kyle Macualay having already joined the Blues’ new recruitment setup as one of the backroom staff to follow Potter from the Amex.
Christopher Vivell, formerly RB Leipzig’s technical director, is also expected to make a move to Stamford Bridge.
Explaining how the new structure will eventually work, Potter said: ‘Essentially it’s a collaborative approach.
‘My job, again, as head coach is to support that process. It’s the early stages. The club are still appointing and getting everything organised but I’m really excited.
‘It’s a key part of how we can be successful because you can have all the resources in the world but if they’re not aligned you can waste a lot of money in this league. That’s an important part of our future and how we want to try and develop.’
