In C-USA play on Saturday afternoon, the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers (3-2, 1-1 C-USA) host the Charlotte 49ers (1-5, 0-2 C-USA) at Protective Stadium. UAB is trying to win back-to-back games for the first time this season, coming off a comfortable 41-14 win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. In that game – the first conference win of the year for the Blazers – junior running back DeWayne McBride carried the ball 12 times for 120 yards and three touchdowns. McBride, who was second-team All-Conference last year, leads the C-USA in rushing yards per game this season at 160.3, with no other player closer than 85. Even with that, he also leads the conference in yards per carry at 7.4. His 9 touchdowns are also a C-USA best this season.

As dominant as McBride has been, UAB's rushing attack is actually two-fold. Backup running back, junior Jermaine Brown Jr., ranks third in the conference averaging 75.6 yards per game. Brown averages 7.1 yards per carry.
This will be the third-ever meeting between UAB and Charlotte in football. They split two meetings in 2017 and 2018, with the Blazers owning the more recent win.
