Israel Denounces South Africa’s ICJ Genocide Motion as ‘Blood Libel’ Over Gaza War

Israel has strongly criticized South Africa for filing a motion at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) accusing Israel of genocide in connection with the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Pretoria seeks an order declaring Israel in breach of the 1948 Genocide Convention. In response, Israel has accused South Africa of collaborating with a terror group that aims to destroy Israel.

The ICJ motion, submitted by South Africa, alleges that Israel’s actions in Gaza are tantamount to genocide, violating the Genocide Convention. South Africa contends that Israel’s conduct, particularly since the conflict began on October 7, has resulted in significant harm to the Palestinian population. The motion calls for urgent measures to protect the rights of the Palestinian people and expedited legal proceedings.

In response, Israel labeled South Africa’s move as “blood libel” and dismissed the claims as baseless. Israel’s Foreign Ministry accused South Africa of collaborating with a terror group, referring to Hamas, which seeks the destruction of Israel. Israel emphasized its commitment to limiting harm to non-involved residents of Gaza and facilitating humanitarian aid.

This latest development further intensifies diplomatic tensions between Israel and South Africa. The accusations and counter-accusations underscore the complexities of the situation in Gaza and the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As the legal proceedings unfold, the international community will be closely watching the implications and potential outcomes of this contentious dispute at the ICJ.
