Jake Paul's long-discussed bout with Tommy Fury is officially off, with the YouTuber moving forward to his August 6 fight at Madison Square Garden. Paul's new opponent will be his toughest yet, the 12-1 Hasim Rahman Jr. Check out the full odds below.
YouTube star Jake Paul was set to take on his toughest boxing opponent to date, Tommy Fury, in December until the planned bout was scrapped. Then, the pair looked set to square off with a date for August set.
Well, that August 6 fight date remains but the opponent does not. With Fury officially out of the bout with Paul, it’ll be Hasim Rahman Jr. meeting the YouTuber at Madison Square Garden later this summer.
With Fury off the card and Rahman Jr. in his place, let’s take a look at the odds for Paul vs. Rahman Jr.
Odds courtesy of bet365 on July 16, 2022.
The 24-year-old Paul has been training as a boxer for three years and enters this bout as a significant -250 favorite. He knocked out fellow YouTube star AnEsonGib in the first round in his debut in 2020 before turning former NBA player Nate Robinson into a meme later that year.
Paul then knocked out former MMA fighter Ben Askren in the first round as a -177 favorite in April of 2021 before setting his sights on another UFC vet in Tyron Woodley.
Paul opened as a -160 fave versus Woodley, but with money coming in on the YouTube star, that line grew to -225 by the time of the fight in August. Paul was almost knocked down in the fourth round but ended up winning via split decision. He showed massive improvement in his rematch against Woodley in December, starching the former UFC lightweight champ in the sixth round.
Hasim Rahman Jr. is the son of former world heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman and has compiled a 12-1 record as a pro.
That said, most of his victories have come against cans, and when he finally faced a fighter with a winning record in April, he was knocked out by James McKenzie Morrison in the fifth round. Rahman Jr. closed as a +150 underdog against Morrison but is currently an even bigger dog at +175 vs Paul.
Rahman Jr. has sparred against Paul in the past and claims that he was instructed to take things easy on the social media star. He normally competes at heavyweight and will need to cut weight to face Paul at cruiserweight.
Jake Paul and Hasim Rahman Jr. will fight on Saturday, August 6.
The fight will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY.
The full undercard for Paul vs. Rahman Jr. is yet to be announced, but the co-main event will feature Amanda Serrano, defending her WBC, WBO, and IBO featherweight titles, against Brenda Carabajal.
The most common way of betting on a boxing match is by picking the overall winner of the bout. With Fury being the favorite for this fight, his odds have the minus sign (-) in front of them at -150. This means that bettors would need to wager $150 in order to win $100. A Paul win would pay out more as he’s the underdog at +130. This means that a $100 wager would profit $130.
As we get closer to the fight date other prop bets will be become available, such as method of victory and round betting.
