Josh Benson has won the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month for his sensational strike against Charlton Athletic in September.
The midfielder opened the scoring for the Reds from 35 yards out against the Addicks in a 3-1 win at Oakwell on 24 September.
The 22-year-old showed his appreciation to the fans who helped him achieve the accolade: “I’d like to thank everyone who voted for the goal.
“Being honest, I didn’t know how far out it was. I’ve just seen the goal and thought ‘I’m gonna have a go here’. I believe I can score from those sorts of distances and lucky enough it went in.
“It was a good one to add to the tally. Thank you once again to everyone who voted.”
Former Reds striker and lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman said: “Receiving the ball on the half turn at least 30 yards from goal, there was no indecision as Benson let leash on a tremendous effort that sailed into the top corner still rising.
“The sheer distance of the strike and the timing of the connection separates this goal from his fellow nominees this month, and I’d be confident from any goal he’s scored before!”
Benson beat off competition from Morecambe’s Jensen Weir, Wycombe Wanderers’ Anis Mehmeti and Plymouth Argyle man Morgan Whittaker.
