Listing: 49 Countries Confirmed for Participation in African Games

As anticipation mounts for the forthcoming African Games slated to be held from March 8–23, 2024, in Ghana, a total of 49 member states of the African Union have confirmed their participation, showcasing a strong commitment to the continent’s premier sporting event. While excitement builds, five countries, including Cape Verde, Senegal, Sao Tome and Principe, Sudan, and South Sudan, are yet to confirm their presence at this prestigious occasion.

Among the confirmed participating nations are Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, and several others, highlighting the widespread enthusiasm and support for the African Games. The event will witness a diverse array of countries coming together to celebrate athleticism, unity, and friendly competition on the African continent.

With 23 competitive sporting events scheduled, ranging from athletics to badminton, cycling, and wrestling, the African Games promise to be an exhilarating showcase of talent and sportsmanship. Moreover, the tournament will serve as a qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris across eight sports disciplines, further enhancing its significance and appeal.

Additionally, 16 other sports, including basketball (3×3), football, swimming, and weightlifting, will feature prominently, offering athletes a platform to demonstrate their skills and prowess. Excitingly, five other sports, including e-sports and mixed martial arts, will be showcased as demonstration sports, adding a contemporary twist to the traditional sporting lineup.

As Ghana gears up to host the African Games for the first time, expectations are high, with over 3,500 elite athletes expected to participate from the confirmed 49 countries. The event promises to be a celebration of African unity, diversity, and excellence in sports, showcasing the continent’s rich sporting heritage to the world.
