Who’s losing streak comes to an end on Saturday?
After a devastating loss at San Diego State last week, the University of Hawaii football team (1-5, 0-1 Mountain West) returns home with hopes of ending its current two-game losing streak.
All the latest sports news from Hawaii’s sports station
The Rainbow Warriors will face Nevada, who are losers of four straight after beginning the 2022 season 2-0. Hawaii head coach Timmy Chang was on the Nevada coaching staff for the past five seasons, coaching receivers and tight ends, and now gets a chance to coach against his former team.
Stay with KHON2 as live updates of Saturday’s contest between the Rainbow Warriors and Wolf Pack will be provided below:
Hawaii 31, Nevada 16, Final
9:10: Hawaii takes the two knees it needs and closes out a 31-16 victory to improve to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in Mountain West play. Stay with KHON2 on-air and online for continuing coverage.
9:08: Hawaii forces a turnover on downs and gets the ball back on its own 29 with 59 seconds remaining. The ‘Bows are two knees away from victory.
9:06: Nevada will begin from its own 25 after a touchback and needs to get something going in a hurry if it wants to make this a game again.
9:04: Hawaii forced Nevada to use all three of its timeouts, then takes a 31-16 lead on Shipley’s 27-yard field goal with 1:37 remaining.
8:56: Thanks to John Tuitupou’s strip sack, Hawaii’s Kolby Wyatt RECOVERS a fumble at the Nevada 24 with 4:17 left. That’ll probably do it if Hawaii can hold on to the ball.
8:53: Hawaii gets multiple first downs but the drive stalls out at the Nevada 40. Shipley booms a touchback punt and Nevada will begin from its own 20 with 4:25 left. Both teams still have all three of their timeouts.
8:45: Hawaii forces a Nevada punt and gets the ball back from its own 40 after a fair catch with 7:33 left. Both teams still have three timeouts, but UH could really milk some clock here, especially with the way Parson is running.
8:40: Nevada will take over from its own 25 after the touchback. A stop for UH could potentially seal the game.
8:39: TOUCHDOWN HAWAII. The Rainbow Warriors take a two-possession lead after a 2-yard touchdown by Parson, his second score of the day. Hawaii leads 28-16 with 10:13 left and shaved a total of eight minutes and six seconds off the clock.
8:30: Hawaii goes for it on fourth down and converts on a speed option keeper by Schager.
FOURTH QUARTER
8:28: The third quarter ends with Hawaii facing a critical fourth-and-1 at the Nevada 45 to begin the fourth quarter.
8:24: Hawaii will begin from its own 35 after the enduing kickoff goes out of bounds.
8:22: After a long and methodical drive, Nevada gets all the way to fourth-and-goal at the Hawaii 3. The Wolf Pack elect to kick instead of going for the touchdown and potential tie. Killam makes a 20-yarder to cut the Hawaii lead to 21-16 with 3:19 left in the third.
8:09: Hawaii can’t get into field goal range and punts to the Nevada 12 with 9:54 left in the third quarter.
8:01: Hawaii forces a three-and-out and will begin from its own 41 after a shallow punt with 14:00 left in the third quarter.
7:58: Nevada will begin from its own 19 after the second half kickoff.
THIRD QUARTER
7:37: Nevada gets to the Hawaii 28 and spikes the ball with two seconds left. Killam’s 45-yard attempt is no good and Hawaii leads 21-13 at halftime. Wolf Pack will receive to begin the second half.
7:32: UH goes three-and-out for the first time today and appears to punt, but Matthew Shipley takes a FAKE PUNT for 18 yards from his own 23 to keep the drive going. However, UH can’t get another first down and punts for real this time. Nevada gets the ball back at midfield with 19 seconds left down 21-13 and one timeout.

7:27: Hawaii will begin from its own 27 with 2:02 left in the first half and no timeouts.
7:24: Nevada again drives to UH territory but the ‘Bows hold the Wolf Pack to another field goal attempt, this time from 48 yards. Killam’s attempt is good, but UH still leads 21-13 with 2:10 left in the first half.
7:14: Nevada will begin from its own 30 with 8:58 left in the second quarter.
7:11: TOUCHDOWN ‘BOWS. Hawaii gambles on fourth-and-6 at the Nevada 32 despite being in range for kicker Matthew Shipley, converts, then gets in the end zone on a 9-yard run by Dedrick Parson. Hawaii leads 21-10 with 9:11 left in the second quarter.
7:00: Hawaii will begin from its own 6 after Chuuky Hines fair catches a ball that was going out of bounds.
6:58: The Hawaii defense steps up and forces a 36-yard field goal attempt by Matthew Killam, which goes right down the middle and cuts the UH lead to 14-10 with 12:39 remaining in the second quarter.
6:53: Schager is INTERCEPTED by Eli’jah Winston at the UH 24 with 14:12 left in the second quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
6:44: Hawaii appears to have forced a three-and-out but Ezra Evaimalo is flagged for a personal foul. The Rainbow Warriors get then get the stop they need, preventing another first down and forcing a Nevada punt. The Wolf Pack punt as the first quarter clock expires, which is fair caught at the UH 17. Hawaii leads 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
6:41: Nevada starting from its own 25 after a touchback.
6:40: TOUCHDOWN RAINBOW WARRIORS. Schager is letting it fly right now, and his latest deep ball is a 48-yard touchdown to a WIDE OPEN Zion Bowens with 2:21 left in the first quarter. Schager is 7-for-9 for 100 yards. UH leads 14-7 after Shipley’s extra point.
6:35: Hawaii will start from its own 30 after a short return by Chuuky Hines with 4:01 left in the first quarter.
6:32: TOUCHDOWN NEVADA. The Wolf Pack drive right down the field and respond with a 16-play, 75-yard drive that took 7:19, capped by a 1-yard Devonte Lee touchdown with 4:06 in the first quarter. All tied at 7.
6:18: Nevada will start from its own 25 after Kyler Halvorsen’s kickoff sails past the end zone for a touchback.
6:17: TOUCHDOWN HAWAII. The Rainbow Warriors drive right down the field and it’s capped off by a 1-yard Dedrick Parson run. Quarterback Brayden Schager was 4-for-5 for 37 yards, including an impressive 25-yard throw to Zion Bowens on third-and-4 that gave UH first-and-goal. Hawaii leads 7-0 with 11:25 left in the first quarter after Matthew Shipley’s extra point. The question now is, can UH put more drives like that together? The ‘Bows have shown a tendency to score early but not often in 2022.
6:08: Hawaii will begin from its own 25 after a touchback on the kickoff.
6:07 p.m.: Nevada wins the coin toss and defers to the second half. Hawaii will receive to begin this game.
FIRST QUARTER
PREGAME: Despite playing at home, the Rainbow Warriors have chosen to wear white jerseys with white pants for the first time this season.
