The Oti Regional Minister, Joshua Makubu, has called on the residents of Nkwanta to put an end to tribal clashes in the area and prioritize unity. Speaking at a press briefing on February 1, Makubu expressed deep concern over the recent conflicts and violence within the municipality.
Highlighting the significance of peace for development, Makubu emphasized the need for unity and understanding among the various tribal groups. He urged community leaders, traditional rulers, and residents to embrace dialogue and reconciliation for the betterment of the region.
Makubu stressed that peaceful dialogue is crucial in fostering togetherness and connecting the tribal groups in the municipality. He called on all parties involved to prioritize dialogue over violence, understanding over ignorance, and unity over division.
To promote peace, the minister announced plans to organize a summit that would bring together residents, traditional leaders, and representatives from conflicting tribes. The summit aims to provide a platform for open discussions, allowing participants to express their concerns and grievances, with the ultimate goal of ending the tribal conflict.
While some community leaders have welcomed the initiative, the ongoing conflict has resulted in casualties, injuries, and property damage. Additionally, the academic calendar has been disrupted, with temporary closures of schools and the imposition of a curfew in the Nkwanta township.
