Barely a year ago on 19th August 2020, President Nana Akufo-Addo , then Presidential candidate of the ruling party (NPP )went to Shama in the Western Region to cut sod for the construction of a District Hospital .
The facility when completed will provide health assistance to the people of Shama , Aboesi , Aboadze and other surrounding communities in and around the Shama enclave.
Shama used to be part of the Sekondi Takoradi Municipality butin 2012 the District was carved out to stand on its own as a result of increase in it’s population .
For this development , the District needed to get it’s own Hospital and other social service centres.
Four months to the 2020 General election the President went to cut sod for the construction of the Hospital which has landed on a vain soil within the frame of one year.
According to the residents , ever since the president came there to cut the sod and the allocated land was demarcated for the project , there hasn’t been any serious business on the plot.
According to Charles Mensah , a resident of the Town there hasn’t been any work on the site after the president came there and even the Contractor who was supposed to execute out that mandate has left the site and is no where to be found .
To him , this is a total disrespect from the current government to the Traditional leaders and the good people of Shama.
“How can a whole president deceive us and make fun of us ” , he lamented.
To the people of Shama the promise by the Government is 419 and a total propaganda to win the election.
The campaign of the President on the agenda 111 hospital project is none other than a total deception because what He promised hasn’t been fulfilled .
They see the move by the president as ridiculing them and making them look like a laughing stock.
In a quick reaction to the issue , the District Engineer Mr. Felix Kurankye debunked those claims and told the media present that the old site designated for the construction of the hospital was later abandoned and now there has been a new demarcated site for the project.
He said feasibility study has now began and soon the project will come to light, he assured the residents .
