News About Violent Protests In NPP’s Polling Station Elections Are Exaggerated – John Boadu

The General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party, John Boadu, has dispelled the news item making rounds to the effect that the picking of nomination forms for polling station elections has been bogged down by widespread violent protests by a section of the party people.

Speaking with Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie on Okay 101.7 FM on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, John Boadu emphasized that though there have been reports of party people being denied nomination forms which have led to protests and violence in some instances, the phenomena are not as widespread as people would want us to believe.

‘’Yesterday, for instance, I was at Sunyani East Constituency to witness the process and people were orderly queuing to get their forms. But a day before, it was all over social media, as though there had been some fights and throwing of fisticuffs. The issue, meanwhile, has been resolved. So all these issues have been resolved as the processes continued without further disruptions’’

He said that with Manhyia (North), the issue was the delay in starting the process and people got agitated. The issues were consequently resolved when later the processes commenced, he indicated.

He also used the occasion to clarify the news making rounds that Trade and Industry Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyeremanten has bought all the nomination forms for prospective polling station executives.

The General Secretary said it is not true that Alan Kyeremanten has bought all the forms.

What we know to be a fact is that, Vice President Bawumia has paid for all the five existing polling station executives. Alan, we are aware, has paid some monies for some of the forms but not all the forms as it is being speculated. It is not the case’’ he stated.

The General Secretary used the opportunity to appeal to those who are yet to get their forms to go to the election committees since the period has been extended by one day. The polling station and electoral area elections which commenced on Saturday, 19th February 2022, are scheduled to end on 5th March 2020.
