Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), alongside Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, Oheneyere Gifty Anti, National Malaria Champion, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director of Public Health at GHS, and Dr. Sefa Sarpong Bediako, Chairman of the Governing Council at GHS, along with other dignitaries, gathered in Accra to commemorate World Malaria Day. The event aimed to raise awareness and garner support for various initiatives aimed at eradicating malaria. Dr. Kuma-Aboagye emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach involving stakeholders from various sectors, including religious, women’s groups, and traditional leaders, to achieve malaria elimination. He highlighted the country’s progress in combating malaria, citing improved testing rates and a significant reduction in malaria prevalence and mortality rates. Alhaji Hafiz Adam reiterated the government’s commitment to investing in surveillance systems and prevention control strategies to target malaria hotspots and ultimately eliminate the disease. Oheneyere Gifty Anti urged individuals to take personal and collective action towards malaria elimination, emphasizing the role of communities in achieving this goal. The event featured activities such as a skit on malaria by students and exhibitions by pharmaceutical and healthcare companies.
