OccupyBoGProtest stand-off-A high-stakes confrontation has unfolded between law enforcement and participants in the #OccupyBoGProtest at the intersection near the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park along the Atta Mills Highway.
The police have established a blockade extending from the traffic light to the entrance of the Bank of Ghana Headquarters, deploying riot police units and tear gas canisters to maintain control.
Upon their initial arrival at the traffic light, some protestors made attempts to breach the barrier, but their leaders swiftly intervened, emphasizing their commitment to preventing any clashes with law enforcement.
Nevertheless, tensions escalated as protestors vocalized their demands, urging the police to grant them passage.
Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, one of the protest organizers and the Director of Legal Affairs for the NDC, asserted that the demonstrators had conducted themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner. Consequently, he contended that there was no rationale for the police to obstruct their path to the Bank of Ghana Headquarters, where they intended to present their petition. Tamakloe affirmed that the protestors were law-abiding citizens fully committed to preserving peace and order
