The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has adamantly rebutted assertions made by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) regarding the return of the docket concerning former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah. Disputing claims that EOCO had yet to return the docket, Samuel Appiah Darko, the OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research, and Communications, affirmed that EOCO had indeed returned the said docket long ago. This statement from the OSP comes as a response to EOCO’s Executive Director, COP Maame Yaa Tiwa Addo-Danquah, who had suggested that the docket had not yet been sent back to the OSP.COP Addo-Danquah cited the lack of additional information required for investigating potential money laundering crimes, as advised by the Attorney General (AG), as the reason for intending to return the docket. This decision, she stated, was based on the AG’s recommendation, which highlighted the OSP’s failure to provide a basis for its determination of potential money laundering crimes for investigation by EOCO.In a rebuttal on Accra-based Citi FM, Mr. Darko clarified that EOCO had already returned the docket to the OSP with an explanation. He refuted claims that the docket forwarded by the OSP was baseless, emphasizing that the OSP had never cleared Cecilia Dapaah of any offense, contrary to assertions. Mr. Darko criticized EOCO for displaying a lack of interest in investigating the matter and attempting to shift blame onto the OSP.This dispute highlights the complexities and tensions within Ghana’s anti-corruption agencies, particularly concerning high-profile cases. The conflicting statements between the OSP and EOCO underscore the challenges in coordinating investigations and prosecuting alleged crimes effectively. As the saga unfolds, it remains to be seen how these agencies will resolve their differences and uphold accountability and transparency in their operations.
