Officers from the Volta Regional Police Command have confiscated more than GH¢1 million in cash that was concealed in 68 fertilizer bags aboard a Ford Transit bus. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday at a checkpoint in Juapong.
According to police reports, the money—amounting to roughly GH¢1,021,700 in one cedi notes and coins—was being transported from Ho in the Volta Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The bus driver, identified as Edward Ansah, has been taken into custody and is cooperating with authorities as investigations continue.
During preliminary questioning, Ansah stated that he had been hired by an unknown individual based in Kumasi to deliver the money from Ho.
