In a step toward enhancing regional administration, President John Dramani Mahama has submitted 10 nominees for consideration as regional ministers. These individuals have been presented to Parliament for approval and are poised to take on leadership roles in Oti, Volta, Eastern, Northern, North East, Upper East, Ashanti, Ahafo, Savannah, and Greater Accra regions.
The President is yet to nominate candidates for six remaining regions, including Western, Western North, Central, Bono East, Bono, and Upper West.
Greater Accra Region: Linda Ocloo, the nominee for this region, is an experienced Member of Parliament representing Shai Osudoku. With a background in finance and administration, she is expected to bring a results-driven approach to regional governance.
Ashanti Region: Frank Amoakohene combines a medical and public service background with his role as an NDC Regional Secretary. His focus on healthcare and youth empowerment positions him to address the region’s needs effectively.
Northern Region: Ali Adolf John has an extensive history in governance and education. A former District Chief Executive, his expertise in educational leadership and regional administration makes him a strong candidate for the position.
Volta Region: James Gunu, a veteran in media and governance, brings years of experience as a former Municipal Chief Executive and media practitioner. His developmental focus aligns with the government’s priorities for the region.
The nominations reflect the President’s commitment to leveraging the expertise of professionals to advance regional development. While most nominees are seasoned members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and hold executive roles within their regions, Linda Ocloo’s appointment as an MP introduces a fresh dynamic.
The nominations will now undergo scrutiny by Parliament to assess the candidates’ qualifications and readiness for these critical roles.
Early feedback on some nominees, such as Ali Adolf John in the Northern Region, has been positive, with stakeholders lauding his track record in governance and education.
Parliament’s vetting process will determine whether these candidates will assume their proposed positions. With expectations high, the outcome of the vetting will play a crucial role in shaping regional governance under the Mahama administration.
