It is fair to say that Bristol Rovers have seen several academy graduates go on to enjoy successful careers over the years.
Of course, some of these individuals have finished their playing careers but there are also some who are still plying their trade within professional football.
Here, we take a look at the club’s top five academy graduates when taking into account market value.
Note: All figures are taken from Transfermarkt…
5. Matt Macey – €300k
Goalkeeper Matt Macey sits fifth on this list, with the towering shot-stopper progressing through the League One club’s academy and was offered a contract, however, a move to Arsenal came to fruition.
Born in Bath, Macey was unable to make a first-team appearance although he did make the matchday squad on one occasion.
Now, Macey is with Championship club Luton Town, signing for the Championship club for a six-figure fee in the summer.
4. Ryan Broom – €350k
Born in Newport, Ryan Broom is another who spent his early years at Bristol Rovers, but unlike Macey, he managed a few senior appearances.
The central midfielder appeared 13 times for the Gas after making his debut for the League One outfit in August 2015.
Broom remains in the third tier and is now playing his football with Cheltenham Town, with the midfield operator scoring twice in 13 third-tier appearances thus far this season.
3. Scott Sinclair – €350k
Another who was born in Bath, Scott Sinclair made his Bristol Rovers debut aged just 15, featuring twice before a move to Chelsea came about.
In what has certainly been a very exciting career, which includes over 100 appearances in the Premier League, Sinclair is back home at the Memorial Ground.
Sinclair has played five times this season for the Gas, with two of those appearances coming from the very start, and the winger has managed to score during the process.
2. Ellis Harrison – €400k
Ellis Harrison levels it up when it comes to the Newport vs Bath battle when it comes to where these players were born.
Spending seven years at the club at first-team level, the striker netted 49 times in a little over 200 appearances.
Harrison also finds himself in the same division as the Gas at the moment, as the 28-year-old is currently playing an important role in Port Vale’s return to League Two.
1. Tom Lockyer – £2 million
Exceeding seven figures is Tom Lockyer, another academy graduate who managed to amass over 200 appearances during his time with the Gas.
The central defender made his senior debut for the third tier club back in early 2013, before a move to Charlton Athletic was sanctioned.
Now, the defender is preparing for World Cup duty with Wales, with the Luton Town defender enjoying an excellent start to the Championship campaign to pave his way back for international selection.
