AFCON Qualifiers: Nigeria to Face Benin, Libya, and Rwanda in Group D

Nigeria will compete against Benin, Libya, and Rwanda in Group D of the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The draw for the qualifiers was unveiled on Thursday at a ceremony held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The 2025 AFCON tournament, scheduled to be hosted in Morocco, will take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. This adjustment was made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to accommodate the congested FIFA calendar. This will be the first time in the history of the Nations Cup that the tournament will kick off in December and span the Christmas and New Year periods.

Group F: Ghana, Angola, Sudan, Niger

Group I: Mali, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Eswatini

Sept 2-10: Matchdays 1, 2
Oct 7-15: Matchdays 3, 4
Nov 11-15: Matchdays 5, 6

Notes:

Liberia, Eswatini, South Sudan, and Chad won preliminary ties; the other 44 qualifiers received byes.
Winners and runners-up qualify from each group, except for the group containing Morocco. Morocco will participate for competitive match practice but qualify automatically as hosts. Thus, only the best-placed of the other three teams in their section will secure a place.
