Alex Vaughn doesn’t have time for a messy ex. The R&B newcomer has shared her new single “Talkin” via LVRN/Interscope Records. She co-wrote it with Jozzy, who is signed to Diddy’s Love Records.
On the Camper-produced track, Vaughn confronts a former lover who has been spreading rumors about their breakup, although they decided to amicably separate.
She sings, “You want clout so you mention my name / If I knew that this was who you were, then / Would have kept on curvin’ / Now I won’t stoop to your level / Just pull out receipts for you / Know I’ve got several / But I don’t wanna play your games / If you not talkin’ to me / Don’t start talkin’ bout me.”
Speaking on her new song, Vaughn tells Rated R&B, “Always move with grace, even after realizing you’ve given too much. Don’t let anyone play in your face. Sometimes you have to put people in their place but doing that doesn’t always require saying too much.”
“Talkin” will appear on Vaughn’s forthcoming EP, The Hurtbook. The project will follow Vaughn’s EP, Voice Notes, which dropped in May. The three 3-track EP featured a compilation of intimate voice memo tracks that Vaughn wrote and recorded at some point in time.
“These are all from different stages of my life and my growth, figuring out how to articulate my emotions,” Vaughn told Rated R&B in an interview.
She added, “This is the origin of how I create my songs, and this is the method that got me to this position. I want people to get a front seat on that process, how I express myself and how I am not afraid to share my emotions and grow.”
In February, Vaughn released her debut single “Mirage.”
