Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, are gearing up for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire with an intensive training camp in Johannesburg, South Africa. Led by coach Chris Hughton, the team is set to assemble on Sunday, December 31, 2023, for approximately ten days of rigorous training.
In preparation for Africa’s premier football competition, scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024, the Black Stars will engage in a friendly match against Botswana in Johannesburg on January 8, 2024. Subsequently, the team will head to Abidjan two days later to participate in the AFCON tournament.
While the technical team is focused on fine-tuning the squad for success, they have decided to keep the training sessions closed to the public and media.
Drawn into Group B, the Black Stars will face tough competition against Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. Their opening match against Cape Verde is set for Sunday, January 14, followed by clashes with Egypt on January 18 and Mozambique on January 22, 2024.
Coach Chris Hughton has taken a decisive step by naming a provisional 50-man squad for AFCON, indicating a meticulous selection process. With the challenging task of narrowing down to a final squad of 26 players, Hughton is ensuring a competitive edge as the Black Stars aim for success in the prestigious tournament.
