FICTION NOTICE: This is an original fictional entertainment story in the McPerry Films “Untrue Stories” collection. Characters, institutions and events are invented. It is not a factual news investigation.
A market trader receives a transfer from a man declared dead three years ago.
The message
Ama Serwaa closes her market stall after a difficult day. At 12:03 a.m., her phone lights up: GHS 8,400 has arrived from an account bearing the name of Kojo Anane, a former customer whose funeral she attended three years earlier.
A troubling discovery
She calls the number, but a recorded voice says it is unavailable. By morning, a stranger in a grey shirt is asking which bank she uses. Her younger brother advises her to keep the money, but Ama insists on finding the rightful owner.
The trail
At the mobile-money office, a clerk confirms only that the transaction exists. He cannot reveal the sender’s private records. Ama notices a handwritten reference: BLUE LEDGER. That evening, an anonymous caller warns her not to visit the old printing shop on Asafo Street.
The cliffhanger
Ama goes anyway. The shutter is half open, and inside she finds a photograph of Kojo standing beside a woman who looks exactly like her late mother. On the back is a date from last month. As she turns it over, the shop door locks behind her.
Previously unseen questions
Who is telling the truth? Which clue has been deliberately left behind? The next chapter follows the consequences of this discovery.
McPerry Films production note: This story is suitable for adaptation into a short scripted film. All persons and incidents are fictional.
