FICTION NOTICE: This is an original fictional entertainment story in the McPerry Films “Untrue Stories” collection. Characters, institutions and events are invented. It is not a factual news investigation.

An obituary arrives three days before its subject is supposed to die.

The message

Investigative blogger Naa Adoley opens an anonymous email containing a polished obituary about her, complete with a photograph taken that morning. The publication date is three days away.

A troubling discovery

She treats it as a threat until she finds two earlier obituaries with similar wording. Both subjects vanished before their notices appeared. She saves the messages, tells a trusted colleague and avoids travelling alone.

The trail

The image metadata points to a photography studio that closed years ago. At the address, Naa finds a parcel of unused newspaper plates and a receipt for a private memorial service.

The cliffhanger

Her colleague calls with news: another obituary has arrived. This time it names him, and its publication date is tomorrow.

Previously unseen questions

Who is telling the truth? Which clue has been deliberately left behind? The next chapter follows the consequences of this discovery.

McPerry Films production note: This story is suitable for adaptation into a short scripted film. All persons and incidents are fictional.
