Yiaga Africa, an international human rights organization, has made a significant announcement regarding its involvement in the upcoming 2023 general elections in Liberia. The primary objective of this mission is to contribute to the improvement of electoral governance in Africa by utilizing evidence-based research, documentation, and advocacy. This initiative, known as the “Transforming Electoral Governance in Africa,” aims to promote informed discussions on elections and electoral reforms.

Dr. Aisha Abdullahi, a former Commissioner for Political Affairs at the African Union Commission and former Nigerian Ambassador to Guinea, will lead this high-level election study mission. Dr. Abdullahi is also a member of the board of Yiaga Africa, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the delegation. She will be joined by a diverse group of individuals with backgrounds in politics, journalism, electoral commission management, and civil society advocacy.

The mission’s scope encompasses a range of critical themes related to elections, such as election management, electoral technology, election results management, and citizen participation. The delegation’s members will engage with key stakeholders involved in the electoral process to gain insights and facilitate meaningful discussions.

Upon completion of their mission, Yiaga Africa’s delegation will compile a comprehensive report outlining their findings and recommendations. This report will be shared with relevant stakeholders both in Liberia and Nigeria, with the aim of promoting electoral reforms and enhancing electoral governance in both countries.

This initiative underscores the importance of international organizations like Yiaga Africa in promoting transparency, fairness, and accountability in electoral processes across the African continent. actively engaging with electoral stakeholders and sharing their expertise, Yiaga Africa’s delegation hopes to contribute to the advancement of democratic principles and practices in Liberia and beyond.

As Yiaga Africa embarks on this mission, it reaffirms its commitment to its core values of promoting democracy, human rights, and good governance in Africa. The organization’s dedication to evidence-based research and advocacy continues to make a meaningful impact on the continent’s electoral landscape.
